Our surface technology hub in Solingen
A more than 1,000m² large area of our original factory in Solingen has been given to research and development of existing and new surfaces and their continued development. Furthermore, the basic research and testing of new coating systems from partners is an ongoing task which we carry out centrally for all connected companies. A further main task is the education and training of our own staff on existing application systems, which are filled with coating materials which are close to series production. More and more, we solve specific tasks which are brought to us by our clients. Ongoing series coating assists us in carrying out these tasks in near practical conditions. We employ all surfaces used in the factories and research using the latest materials.
Here is an excerpt from the installed application systems:
Corrosion resistant primer and single-coat finish in RAL 9005.
Layer thickness 12 – 40µm
Baking temperature 140-180 degrees Celsius
Wet painting in aqueous and solvent-based systems
Spray painting with and without pre-treatment of single component or multi-component coating systems with layer thicknesses of 10 to 60µm. As pre-treatment for the parts, we can perform either zinc phosphating, zinc thermal diffusion or only alkaline parts cleaning. The baking temperature can be set for each goods carrier individually between 80 and 200 degrees Celsius.
Low and high temperature coating in all colours and qualities both with Tribo or Corona charging: with and without pre-treatment using zinc phosphate, zinc thermal diffusion or alkaline parts cleaning. Layer thickness may be between 15 and 120 µm. The baking temperature can be timed exactly between 140 – 220 degrees Celsius.
Thermal diffusion galvanizing
One layer galvanizing in the gas phase, whilst the layer thicknesses can be between 12 and 30µm depending on the requirements profile. Depending on the application, the parts are heated to the necessary process temperature between 392 – 417 degrees Celsius and then coated.
Blasting of workpieces
Blasting is done in a chamber blasting plant and using a manual blasting booth. Here, the parts can be treated for any duration and at a defined blasting intensity
Soft paint stripping
Soft paint stripping of metal workpieces with rinsing and cleaning zones is often performed regarding a subsequent coating process. Suitable for steel, aluminium and galvanized parts.

- Cleaning – zinc phosphating with powder coating

Constantly changing tasks such as feasibility checks or pre-production checks of metal components or complete assemblies – outside of series plants but in series conditions – create the ideal conditions for our clients to obtain long-term value retention and early functional testing of their high-quality products.
The ongoing test series:
Task: can be decorated, light-resistant CDP with increased corrosion
Client: BMW – suppliers
Period: Development completed – phasing out in 2016 – Transfer to project partner
Task: High-corrosion resistant coating with minimal setting behaviour on CDP standard
Client: Tiger and Akzo
Period: Development completed – Implementation in Hagenbach at OFTEC. Opening the powder plant in May 2016
Task: Minimum layer thicknesses with decorative surfaces
Period: Basic research – powder development – application development by 2018
Environmental protection is also constantly developed in our technology hub. We use in-house developed plants for water recirculation, air washers and thermal air cleaning and thus exceed all currently valid requirements and regulations. The quality of coatings is controlled by ongoing tests and the test results are checked by an accredited test laboratory after completion of the trials.
